Every job carries a fixed setup block — plates, die-cutting tooling, make-ready and the first-off approval run — which is charged once regardless of order size. At 100 pcs that setup is spread over very few units; at 1,000 pcs it is amortised ten times thinner. The production cost per unit only improves modestly. That is why going from 100 to 1,000 pcs can cut the unit price by ~80%, but 1,000 to 10,000 pcs saves roughly 55% more.

Page count drives both paper and press time, so it is the single biggest lever after quantity — but it scales sub-linearly. Doubling the page count raises the unit cost by roughly 60–70%, not 100%, because the bindery and cover costs are shared. In the calculator this is applied as a compound exponent (production and setup scale independently), matching how factories actually cost a job.

Printing plates for every colour and page, die-cutting and creasing tooling for boxes, foil/emboss dies where selected, machine make-ready, colour matching and the first-off sample you approve before mass production begins. This is a one-time cost per order and per artwork revision.
